This week sees seminar events and a new service for owners of older Macs as activity from resellers in the UK and Ireland.

Mac-owners with older Macs are being offered a new service from Republic of Ireland Mac reseller Compu b, which has launched MacEstimator.

MacEstimator is an online quotation tool that provides a trade in price for old Macs. For example, using the service, a 12.1-inch G3 iBook 700MHz can be traded in for £380, a 12.1-inch G4 PowerBook 867MHz gets a return of £760, and a 15-inch G4 iMac 700MHz trades in for £500.

Users have the opportunity to offer more details about configuration and added peripherals of sale items.

The company suggests that those whose models are not listed on the site should email [email protected].

Speaking at MacExpo, Compu b director Denis O'Connell said: "We have had an incredible response to the service. People say that they don't want the hassle of selling on eBay and this is the ideal solution."

Showgoer Lee Meader, a film maker, agreed: "I'd love a G5 but the only way could afford one is if I could trade-up my G4. Someone should offer that as an option."
