Apple CEO Steve Jobs has announced the public beta of Mac OS X.
He said: "Mac OS X is the future of the Mac."
The beta will cost $29.99 (£24.95) and will be available only direct from the Apple Store. German, International English and French-language versions will all ship on the same CD.
Apple Expo attendees can buy Mac OS X public beta from today.
Mac OS X includes a built-in MP3 player, a carbonized version of Internet Explorer 5, Java 2 support, OpenGL and the operating system is optimized for multi-processing.
Jobs also revealed that "pretty much every developer we have is carbonizing their applications".
