Concerned WordPerfect users have begun a campaign to convince the ailing Corel Corporation to save WordPerfect.
Last week Corel announced plans to cease production of WordPerfect. In additional news, the much-vaunted Corel/Borland merger discussions have collapsed, leaving the Canadian-based software manufacturer foundering, despite its recent purchase of MetaCreations Kai’s Power Tools products.
e-petition WordPerfect users have begun a Web site to save the word-processing application.
Jonathan Mills, spokesman for the campaign, said: "Microsoft is under attack for cornering the market, now its main competitor in word-processing on the Mac says it’s to make its program Windows-only."
Ottowa-based Corel purchased WordPerfect from Novell in 1996, WordPerfect users have been waiting three years for an update to the application.
