Corel has released a free complete version of WordPerfect as part of its WordPerfect 3.5 Enhancement Pack for Macintosh.

The package is hosted on the Ottawa-based firm’s Web site for free download.

The final version of the Enhancement Pack was introduced two years ago and includes a word-processor, OrgChart Builder and Thesaurus-As-You-Go. The retail version, which continues to be available until late October, also includes clip-art, sounds, fonts and Web art.

Technical support for WordPerfect 3.5 will end in October. John Geylense, the company’s Mac brand manager, said at Macworld Expo in New York that Corel shall no longer update the "outdated" code base that lurks at the heart of WordPerfect for the Mac (see Daily News, Corel offers WordPerfect for free, July 23). He would not confirm or deny that Corel would release a new version of WordPerfect based on new code.
