WebEx has added Mac OS X support to WebEx MediaTone Network, its Web communications service.

The solution offers secure, multi-platform Web meetings and "is designed to let iChat Av users move to a secure conferencing solution", the company said.

WebEx claims it was the first company to provide cross-platform data, voice and video Web-conferencing services for Windows, Mac, Solaris and Linux.

"With one-third of our employees on Macs, WebEx's ability to support multiple operating systems in a single training session or meeting was an important factor in our decision," said WebEx user Carol Bimberg, who works for Detroit advertising company Walter Thompson.

WebEx's services are delivered using its own global WebEx MediaTone Network which supports live data, voice and video communications and allows users to hold interactive meetings through a browser.

WebEx Communications chief marketing officer David Thompson said: "WebEx leverages the advanced networking capabilities of Apple's operating systems. Mac users within the enterprise represent an important user base, and WebEx is committed to providing all businesspeople with the ability to participate fully in Web meetings."
