Truphone, best known for its mobile VoIP application, has announced a new service aimed at cutting international costs even further.

The new Truphone Local Anywhere service is billed as the world’s first true commercial multi-country single-SIM mobile service that makes it easier than ever to make international calls while still keeping costs down.

The company announced its plans at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Truphone Local Anywhere will deliver low rates on their Truphone plan in any supported country claims the company, potentially eliminating the need to maintain separate phones, switch between multiple SIMs or incur expensive roaming charges when abroad.

The new service also provides savings to people calling Truphone Local Anywhere customers as well promises Truphone.

Additionally local agreements will have a data package available, fees for which have yet to be announced.

With the service Truphone hopes to attract frequent travellers, those with friends and relatives abroad, students and anyone who wants to talk to different countries at local rates.

It's been a busy week so far for Truphone, which yesterday added new Skype and AOL compatible features to its free Apple iPhone and iPod app.

Truphone has won rave reviews for its services including recommendations from The Sunday Times and The New York Times.
