Prosser has a pretty decent track record when it comes to announcement dates recently, so hopefully the dates hold water. The dates are all quoted as falling within certain working weeks.
He claims that the new Apple Watch Series 6 and a new iPad model will be announced via a press release during the week commencing 7 September, with the iPhone 12 event to announce all the new phones in the range happening, presumably virtually, in the week commencing 12 October.
It's not clear if the iPad will be a mini, regular, or Pro model.
New, adjusted Apple dates!— Jon Prosser (@jon_prosser) August 12, 2020
Apple Watch & iPad
- Via press release
- Week 37 w/c Sep 7
iPhone 12 event
- Week 42 w/c Oct 12
iPhone 12 devices
- Preorders week 42 w/c Oct 12
- Shipping week 43 w/c Oct 19
iPhone 12 Pro devices
- Preorder and shipping in Nov (no exact date yet)
It’s then claimed that the regular iPhone 12 models will then be available for pre-order that same week, before shipping the week after. Pre-order and shipping for the iPhone 12 Pro will be sometime in November.
This new information fits with the continuing narrative that Apple is planning a staggered release of the iPhone 12 line as the coronavirus pandemic has delayed the manufacturing process.
But it’s the first time we’ve seen solid information that the Watch and iPad will simply drop one day with no event attached. This might mean that the two products are minor spec upgrades, with no major new changes or features worthy of presenting in Covid-forced pre-recorded format.
Prosser goes on to note that these dates are “in the system” currently but could change as we near them. While Prosser has been off with a couple of predictions recently, his sourced information on launch days has been quite solid of late.
