Facebook is my latest obsession. If you haven’t yet been on there is it worth taking a look – it really isn’t as sad as it sounds.
What you get is a great way to keep up to date with all your friend’s news, share photos, and spread the word about what you are doing. It’s also a great way to network with people you know through work, getting to know them better, which isn’t a bad thing, usually.
Oh, and you’ll suddenly find people you went to school with/met at university/worked with popping up! It’s amazing how many people are already on there, and it’s growing by the day – you’ll be surprised. Blasts from the past aside, this is kind of cool I think.
Of course there will be people out there who aren’t all that keen on sharing everything with people they don’t know all that well, but you don’t have to. While some of us are a little too focused on collecting as many friends as we can, if you just have a network or five friends and family that you want to share photos and news with then it really is a great tool. And it’s completely private, only the people you make friends with get to see your stuff.
This is Web 2.0 at its best. Next week I’m on holiday and I’m already wondering just how I’m going to be able to cope with not going on there to check up on my mates and what they are up to!
