Macs don’t crash or get viruses, much, says the British Advertising Standards Commission.
The commission had been contacted by 14 of the British viewing public about two of Apple Get a Mac ads. The wingers were complaining about the ad in which PC suffers from a virus and the ad where PC keeps crashing. Their complaint: Apple is using the ads to mislead UK residents into thinking that Macs never crash and that they don’t get viruses.
It seems these 14 people (who probably work for Microsoft) didn’t really have a leg to stand on. Apple defended itself, pointing out that it never states in the ads that Mac’s don’t crash, just that they don’t crash as much. And the commission concluded that it is simply true that Macs don’t get as many viruses or crash as much as PCs.
Of course this doesn't mean that anyone is saying that Macs don't get ill once in a while, just not as much as PCs. It is true that Macs do crash on occasion. I’ve seen the spinning beach ball of death! But do you know what it is that causes it? Microsoft Word. Every time! And the only viruses I’ve ever contracted on my Mac have affected only one program. Yep, you’ve guessed it, Microsoft Word!
