You're not going to believe this, but some people are still using floppy disks...

The PC World chain of computer stores is finally stopping selling the 1.4MB floppy, so someone out there must have been buying them as recently as yesterday. Who are you?

First introduced by Sony in 1981, the floppy disk was ubiquitous in PCs throughout the 1980s and 1990s. It was Apple that bravely dropped the tiny-capacity format when it released its original iMac in 1998 - suggesting that email had killed off the need for it.

So nearly ten years after Apple realised that the floppy was history it looks like the rest of the world has caught up with its thinking.

Anyone out there still using a floppy drive? Come out and share your shame!
