Edifier 'On the Go' iF350 portable speaker system full review
The 'On the Go' iF350 portable speaker system for iPod and iPhone from Edifier is billed as a dock petite and light enough to be used anywhere. While hardly pocket size, the 1.5kg system does at least fold away nicely, the dock and remote fitting snuggly into the body of the unit. The dock comes with its own neoprene protective carry pouch for travel and storage, although you'll also need space to carry the power supply.
The iF350’s other selling point is a built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery, which promises up to 15 hours of music from a single charge, which takes approximately four hours. Mains free, we managed over 12 hours of on and off play before we felt the urge to reach for the plug and lead. A black LCD screen displays battery status, as well as iPod functions such as volume and FM radio settings. The FM radio includes the ability to store up to 18 presets.
Playback from both iPod and FM radio is good, clear and detailed, driven by two 3-inch speaker drivers. FM reception from the built-in antenna was solid around the house although it's a pity Edifier couldn't include a DAB radio for the price. The unit also adds a 3.5 mm jack for connection to other MP3 players and a range of docks compatible with various iPod sizes and vintages. The supplied remote is simply and logically laid out but is rather wide for smaller hands.
Build is good. Stamped with official 'Made for iPod' approval, the dock is made in China with greater care than some units we've tried over the years. Styling is pleasing on the eye without being drop dead gorgeous. If you are thinking of using the dock in the bedroom, the unit comes with a clock and alarm settings. The Edifier speaker dock is currently available from Play.com.
