Many companies and Internet service providers use a proxy server. When you type in a URL, your Web browser doesn't connect to the actual Web site. Instead, it always connects to the proxy server and asks it to get the URL for you. A proxy can be used as a sort of firewall because it isolates you from connecting to the Internet. This can cause problems with Web services that require authentication such as MacHelp, QuickTime and iTunes. Authoxy is the solution to a seamless Internet experience. It runs locally as a proxy server to intercept HTTP requests, forwarding them on to your regular proxy server with user name and password details you define in a System Preference Pane. A great example of a program growing from a real need!
