Guardian iPad Edition review

The Guardian’s iPad app has a simple and attractive (and somewhat Windows 8-esque) tile-based layout that lends itself to the touchscreen format.

The size of the story tiles indicates their relative importance, but even the smallest are easy to hit with a finger – far more iPad-friendly than fiddly text links. Everything is easy to see and use. And you can swipe to the left to move to the next page in the section.

There’s a pleasing sense of curation here – the feeling that significant thought has gone into choosing what to present to the reader, and how to present it. In that sense the app has more in common with print than web offerings.

This is quite expensive, and unlike with the Times app, you can get the content on the website for free. But this is far more elegant, clear and user-friendly than the online offering, and a pleasure to use.
