topsee for iPhone full review
Topsee from the lastminute.com Labs team in association with ustwo™ is a novel iPhone application that offers things to eat, drink, see, do and buy in central London. Less traditional guide book, more bloggers tip sheet, topsee assembles some of less obvious tourist attractions. The selection made from a varied mix of bloggers highlights anything that is permanent, such as monuments, museums and restaurants, within the Zone 1 tube boundary.
At launch topsee finds your location then shows you the top thing nearest you. If you’re outside Zone 1 or London it will still show the distance, which is useful if you are planning a trip. A series of photos gives a clue as to what's available, select any to discover more, shake your iPhone for a further selection. Topsee highlights the top thing including the top fish finger sandwich, top cupcake, top foaming tankard of ale, top garden square, top necklaces, top vintage shoes and so on.
Each photo comes with a 'Why, Where, How' guide, written by a blogger, with details why the particular thing is special, along with details such as location and opening times. Topsee even shows you directions, which considering many places are off the beaten track, is essential. The application also works well with the iPod touch, due to the availability of free Wi-fi in central London.
The mini-guides are generally excellent, brief but with enough information and trivia to be useful. Not all selections require you to spend money, which is a good thing in cash conscious times. The selection is also commendable, although we hope new content will be added regularly, as promised, to keep the selection fresh. Some things do appear regularly and the ability to search and save favourites would be useful. Those things you do like the look of can be emailed, and shared via Facebook and Twitter integration
