JBL On Tour Micro full review

Is that a speaker in your pocket or are you just glad to see me? Thankfully, it turns out to be just a speaker – the On Tour Micro from JBL.

This ultra-portable speaker really can fit into your trouser pocket, as it consists of a compact plastic disk that measures just 80mm in diameter and 37mm thick. It’s quite solidly built, though, so you don’t have to worry too much about damaging it if you’re zooming around on a skateboard or hiking across the Pennines.

There’s no iPod dock or Bluetooth wireless, but the On Tour Micro includes a built-in audio cable that you can plug straight into any mobile phone or audio player. There’s also a separate AUX input socket for devices that have their own cables.

The On Tour Micro isn’t going to keep the neighbours awake at night, but it produces a respectable enough sound. It’s comparable to the sound that you’d get from a small radio, so you could drop it onto a table in a college common room and play some tunes for your friends, or maybe chill out when you’re having a lunchtime sarnie in the park. However, if I was going on holiday for few days then I’d prefer something a little more substantial for listening to my music.

The speaker includes a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for about six hours, along with a little carrying pouch, both of which merit brownie points given the Micro’s modest price tag.
