Lexmark Pro715 full review

The Pro715 from Lexmark is another bulky multifunction device, weighing in at 9.09kg, and its harsh angular design isn’t particularly attractive. However, it performs well and provides a wide range of features for office printing work.

The printer’s size is probably unavoidable, as it includes a fax machine along with its printing, copying and scanning features. There’s also a 150-sheet paper tray and 50-sheet automatic document feeder.

Lexmark has also paid great attention to detail. The installer program starts off by explaining how to set up the printer, and offers to put a Lexmark folder in the Dock for you. The control panel screen on the front of the device even prompts you when the paper tray is running low. The Pro715 doesn’t directly support AirPrint, but Lexmark does provide its own LexPrint app for iOS devices.

It’s not the fastest printer in this group, but its speeds are still quite respectable. Lexmark’s quote of 35ppm for black and 30ppm for colour printing is based on the printer’s fast draft mode, but standard quality prints came out at around 7.5ppm and 5ppm respectively. It also did well with photographic printing, turning out a glossy 4 x 6 postcard in about 40 seconds.

Print quality was good, with crisp black text and bold colours. Photo printing was particularly strong, with deep rich colours on both plain and glossy papers. Our only minor complaint here was that when switching between A4 and postcard papers, the Pro715 would sometimes pause before printing and ask us to confirm that we really did want to use a different type of paper.
