Toshiba 19DV713B full review
Like Sony’s KDL-26EX302, the 19DV713B is a television rather than a computer monitor. However, this is one of Toshiba’s combi models that’s designed to do a bit of everything, and it’s a good choice for people who need a compact TV or monitor for their bedroom or study.
Another similarity with the Sony model is that the 19DV713B has a resolution of 1,366 x 768, which means that it’s not quite full HD. However, that’s less of a problem on a small 19in screen such as this, especially since 720p (1,280 x 720) seems to be the standard for HD video on iTunes. We certainly had no trouble playing HD episodes of Glee and Misfits from an iPad. The image quality was very good, both for video playback and web browsing and other computing tasks. It would make a good companion for an iPad or the 11in MacBook Air when you’re at home.
While the screen isn’t particularly large, the 19DV713B does boast a wide range of additional features. Along with the Freeview TV tuner, it also has a built-in DVD player and a comprehensive set of audio and video connectors. There are two HDMI connectors, so you could easily hook it up to a Mac mini and an AppleTV or iPad at the same time. It also has a VGA connector, SCART, Composite and Component video for hooking up a camcorder, and both digital and analogue audio input and output.
In other words, you can hook this screen up to pretty much anything you want. You could switch from watching TV or a DVD film, to playing some iTunes rentals, or web browsing with a laptop, simply by pressing a button on the handheld remote control included.
The compact 19DV713B TV is ideal if space is tight and has a range of connections, Freeview and a built-in DVD player
