You’re used to headphones that plug your ears to block out external sound, but these over-ear cans actually cancel external noise by producing an inverted version of the soundwaves from outside. This cancels the external waves out.
The tech requires power - you put an AAA battery into each earphone, and there’s an on/off switch on the right side.
It’s pretty cool stuff, and we’re happy to say that these reasonably priced cans from Genius do the job really well. They work best with steady rumbling noises, such an aircon unit or the noise from within an aircraft cabin.
We tried it next to a busy road and the general traffic noise was reduced considerably, while isolated noises such as a scooter hurtling by is still noticeable.
Sound-wise, the headphones are OK. You sacrifice fidelity for the noise-cancelling tech - music quality is a bit muddy but perfectly passable for casual listening.
