Capsized+ for iPad review: A planet full of spiky threats and blocked passageways awaits
If you played the wonderful interplanetary exploration with a jetpack gem that was Waking Mars but griped that there wasn't enough action in it, Capsized+ might well do the trick. A side-on game of navigating a large planet full of spiky threats and blocked passageways, it's pleasantly large in scale with a vaguely dreamlike feel despite all the laserguns. The on-demand jetpack means you can create your own path, of a sort, through the hand-drawn-esque environments, while simple, physics-based puzzles abound.
Souring things somewhat is how hard it pushes a store full of real-money upgrades - nothing wrong with that in principle, but it seems to clash with laid-back innocence of the game itself. Controls, meanwhile, are thoughtful in terms of how they make the relatively complicated possible on iPad.
It's definitely one of those pat-your-head-while-rub-your-stomach affairs, so expect a few sudden deaths as a result.
