Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved full review
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved is a fast-paced shooting game for iPad & iPhone. And it's also very hard indeed.
A variety of brightly coloured shapes appear, with each type of shape moving in a different direction. The blue squares move towards you and the pink shapes hover on one spot. The aim of the game is to shoot all these shapes, without colliding with them, and thereby earn enough points so you can reach the target and move on to the next level.
Your drone shoots upon your touch, with the direction of fire controlled by you. However, if you struggle (like I did) there is an option to make your drone shoot automatically, so all you have to do is dodge the flying shapes.
The graphics and animation of the game are brilliantly clear and detailed, with no glitches or problems. The game has a sci-fi theme and each level takes place on a different shaped planet. Surrounding the planet is a background of obscure shapes, which makes the game very visually enticing; there are also fireworks, explosions and ripples on the planet. It looks great.
There are a variety of modes that you can play in as you collect stars. In adventure mode, you must work through the 50 levels by reaching the targets. The difficulty ramps up fiercely as you go along, with new levels crowded with more and more shapes for you to shoot and dodge.
The game is extremely hard to play at first, because of its sheer speed and tricky controls. However, with practice we got a better grasp of the controls and the way the game works, and were completely engaged until we had practiced and completed the level.
It's definitely a great game for tackling boredom. As the level progresses, it becomes more frantic and has you on the edge of your seat as you fight against the increasing numbers of shapes appearing on the surface.
