knomo iPad Mini Folio review - compact, classy iPad mini case
The iPad Mini Folio from London-based, self-styled 'techcessories brand' knomo is a stylish and seemingly durable case, that goes some way to addressing an issue facing all iPad owners. Apple has gone to great lengths to craft a tablet from aluminium and glass that is both slimline and lightweight, so it's a great pity to hide it. Equally, you want to protect your investment, without adding too much in the way of bulk or weight. Knomo's solution gets the balance about right, a figure hugging clip-on case with a cover that can also be used as a stand. Available in black, cognac or teaberry, the case comes with a semi-rubberised, moulded plastic backing, which holds your iPad mini in place, along with a nicely lined, full-grain leather cover.
Once fitted, you can leave your iPad in the case, as all controls and connections are clearly accessible, including your iSight camera, an option not available with all iPad cases. Knomo notes the iPad Mini Folio can be opened into upright position for viewing TV, films and video and folded into raised position for typing. Laid flat it offers decent padding, although the plastic back can show temporary marks from greasy fingertips. If you use your iPad mini as an ebook reader, the iPad Mini Folio is easily manageable in one hand, the cover helping to resolve glare issues sometimes associated with Apple's display.
We recently overheard a conversation involving a lost, possibly stolen, iPhone found on the underground and handed in to be returned to the owner. Faith in humanity restored, at least momentarily, every knomo accessory comes with a unique 'If Lost' ID number you can register online, along with free phone contact numbers should you find the device. It's a worthy idea, which we hope is embraced should you be unfortunate enough to loose your valuables on your travels. At almost £50, the iPad Mini Folio is also an investment you wouldn't want to lose, although such a snug design is rather at the mercy of Apple. Should the next gen iPad mini come radically redesigned, you may find yourself with one obsolete accessory should your iPad mini need replacing.

At just under £50, the iPad Mini Folio isn't an impulse buy and it has to be said cheaper options are available. That said, it's a quality iPad mini case that goes some way in protecting your investment safely and stylishly, without distracting too much from Apple's svelte design aesthetics.
