knomo Troon full review
The Troon forms part of knomo's recent 'Men's Balham Collection,' a selection of stylish MacBook/iPad compatible laptop-bags, messengers and sleeves. Priced between £70 and £175, the Troon at £95 sits at the more affordable end of what is a fairly premium priced range collection from the London-based, self-styled 'techcessories brand'. Compatible with most 13-inch laptops, it comes complete with a velveteen padded pouch for your MacBook, tidy bridge lock flap and comfortable, adjustable shoulder strap.
Available in classic black or subtle sand - brown to our eyes - the twill cotton canvas exterior makes for a lightweight and compact bag, that is exceptionally manageable on your travels. Weighing in at a modest 0.9 Kg (2.0 lbs), it's best suited to short and frequent trips when you can effectively travel light. The bag comes with a nice array of internal and external pockets, which goes some way in helping to organise your daily essentials and ensure you find keys and such like more easily. On days when you don't need your MacBook, the Troon is a decent home for iPad and could just about double as an overnight bag for those who only need a change of t-shirt, pants and socks.
Although well made, the Balham range appears to lack some of the refinement, dare we say bling, associated with the knomo brand. For instance, the Troon's lining isn't as lush or as protective as some we have seen from the company, but it compliments the overall unfussy design nicely, and offers some comfort for your valuables. Branding is thankfully subtle, so you don't feel like you are carrying around a free ad for the company, or advertising your valuables to ne'er-do-wells. Like all knomo accessories, the Troon comes with a worthy and unique 'If Lost' ID number, which you can register online in the hope that if lost, a kind soul will reunite you with your belongings.
