PadStand for iPad full review
The PadStand for iPad from Shnuggle is a simple, fuss free way to fix your iPad, in both landscape and portrait mode, onto just about any reasonably flat surface. Tested on a desktop, train journey, rather bouncy mattress and chair arm (not for the faint of heart) the iPad stayed upright and secure despite the relatively small footprint of the stand, slipping fairly snuggly into a grove. A small cut out gives easy access to your iPad home button, and as long as you’re not wearing boxing gloves you can select apps and swipe away with relative ease, while the iPad sits in the stand.
Soft and rubbery, in a range of colours, the design may divide those who either like the fun, minimal LEGO brick-like look and those who crave for something a bit more sophisticated and formal. Lightweight and reasonably portable, it's also a decent travel companion, that won't take up much bulk in your bag or suitcase. The flexible design also means the PadStand should out last the life of many an iPad, with no moving parts to wear out or break.
One slight annoyance is that if you lift up the iPad from your desk, the stand simply falls off. That alone shouldn’t really be a problem, but a tighter fit would be more welcome and reassuring. It's also worth noting that the fit is unlikely to support any thick set, heavy duty iPad cases or covers you might have. The finishing is also a little misshapen in parts, although the rubbery design means they are no sharp edges to mark or scratch your iPad.
