Like most of its rivals, the Equinux comprises a USB 2.0 socket at one end and a mini MCX port at the other, enabling you to plug in either the supplied portable antenna or use a coaxial adaptor which lets you connect to the roof aerial. It also packs in a DVB-T tuner so you can use it to watch Freeview TV.
Equinux bundles the TubeStick with its own The Tube software. This enables you to watch, record and timeshift programmes on your Mac but also lets you chat live with other users about the TV shows you’re watching, as well as share recordings via FTP, MobileMe and so on.
The software definitely has its plus points – including a built-in Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) – but it doesn’t feel as polished or as accomplished as Elgato’s EyeTV 3.0 alternative.
