Over HD full review
Adding a few words to your iPhone photographs has many advantages. You can personalise those everyday moments, send birthday greetings, messages of love or simply have fun with a choice caption or two. Over HD, an app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, is among the best we've seen for doing just that, thanks to an attractive and intuitive interface and selection of choice, creative fonts. Over HD lets users either take a photograph or better still select one from your camera roll library, on which to add text.
The option: "Double tap to edit text" appears, which brings up the keyboard with a choice of colours. Via an attractive spin wheel, the app adds the ability to edit the text and choose a font as well as the possibility to reset, save and share images at a decent resolution, where the text is kept sharp. Text can be positioned by simply using your finger, while you can crop, lighten or darken your chosen image to add impact and contrast. Currently, the 28 typefaces offered as standard promise to "make your photos beautiful and engaging," and that's hard to disagree with, especially with the recent addition of some seductive handwritten style fonts.
For those who require more fonts, an In App Purchase costing 69p offers much more choice but these lack the originality of those fonts offered by default. Over HD currently lacks the ability to change the opacity of fonts, which is something planned for a future update, and would ensure full image and text could be seen. It would also be useful to combine fonts and sizes on one image, without the need to save and reopen an image. For those who want to try before they buy, developers Potluck offer Overgram, which is free but comes with a small watermark, which you can remove for 69p via In App Purchase.
