AudioBoo for iPhone review
AudioBoo by Best Before Media is a quick way to share audio recordings online. It’s free, and you don’t need to create an account to use it. However, you’ll want to create a free AudioBoo account to make the most out of the features.
Compatible with any iPhone or second-generation iPod touch, it has three buttons along the bottom of the screen: Recent Boos, Record, and Account. Head to the Record screen, hit start, and off you go. You’ve got three minutes to record your audio and a timer lets you know how much time has elapsed. You can add a short description, attach a photo, assign tags, and publish your ‘boo’.
To get the word out that you’ve uploaded a new boo, you’ll want to link your account to sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Posterous, FriendFeed, and Tumblr.
That way, any time you publish a new boo, your followers will get a link to the recording, view the attached photo or see a map if you’ve geo-tagged it.
While AudioBoo excels at creating the boos, browsing boos – including your own – is limited. The Recent Boos screen allows you to scroll through some recent boos, but there’s no way to search tags, hear boos in your vicinity, or look up accounts. There’s no way to browse and edit your own boos. You have to visit AudioBoo’s website for this. As the app matures, hopefully more features will be added.
AudioBoo shows a lot of potential. It’s beautifully designed with informative displays. Recording and publishing is a snap, and integration with other social networking sites extends its reach hugely. You can’t beat the price, but we wanted more robust in-app browsing of published boos.
