LogMeIn full review
Ignition from LogMeIn offers a way to remotely access and control your Mac or PC from afar, using any iOS compatible device. You can use applications and edit files, and even watch Flash-based video. Controlling your computer can initially appear clumsy, especially on the smaller iPhone and iPod touch screens – something that requires practice to master.
LogMeIn has been busy updating Ignition, resolving many of the issues noted by App Store users. It’s now a far more useful, powerful and responsive app. The introduction of file viewing and management is long overdue and most welcome, adding the ability to copy and move files or folders from remote computers directly onto iOS devices.
One significant downside is your computer needs to be on or woken from sleep – via LAN. If you plan to be away from your computer for any period, this is hardly ideal and not very environmentally friendly. LogMeIn offers both a perfectly adequate free version of its desktop version of Ignition, needed to run the iOS version, along with LogMeIn Pro2, which costs $69.95 (£42) annually. Sadly, the Mac version of LogMeIn Pro2 lacks several of the features found in the premium PC version.
