At 53.3 x 35.6 x 20.3cm when empty, and thicker when packed full, STM’s Journey is the largest of the bags we've ever tested in terms of overall size, although at 3kg it’s also one of the lightest.
This alone could make it a winner if you’ll have to carry it up and down stairs.
The laptop pocket, located just in front of the main compartment, provides very thick padding on five sides; only the top of the pocket lacks this protection. Although a 15in MacBook Pro fits snugly in terms of width and depth, the pocket is designed for much thicker laptops, which means Apple’s thin models have quite a bit of room to wiggle.
The Journey’s outer surfaces are heavy-duty, water-resistant nylon with a thin layer of stiff padding. Only the bottom surface and the rear frame are completely rigid.
Nice touches include a pair of thick, rubber handles – one on the top of the bag and one on the side – that give you different options for carrying the bag, and lockable zips on the main and laptop compartments.
