At just £29.95 the TubeStick from Equinux is far and away the cheapest TV tuner currently available for the Mac. However, it’s a digital-only tuner so you’ll need to make sure you have good digital reception in your area before buying.
On top of the attractive price, the TubeStick includes two handy bits of software. The first program is The Tube, which handles the basic tasks of watching and recording TV programs. It also has a few fancier features as well, such as the ability to stream video recordings via iChat, so you can watch and discuss the latest episode of Big Brother with your friends.
The second program, called MediaCentral, works a lot like Apple’s Front Row, allowing you to play your iTunes music, YouTube videos, and even tune into internet radio and television stations.
The lack of analogue reception will be a problem for some people, but the TubeStick is a bargain for people who can get good digital reception.
