Miroslav Philharmonik full review
Miroslav Philharmonik is a virtual instrument plug-in aimed at people working on classical compositions and arrangements. The original “Miroslav Vitous Symphonic Orchestra Samples” library, recorded at the Dvorak Symphony Hall in Prague with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1990s, cost a small fortune when it was first released for AKAI and other popular samplers. Now you can buy the legendary Miroslav Vitous Symphonic Orchestra and Choir sample collections at a fraction of the original price.
Sonic Reality and IK Multimedia acquired the recordings from the original sessions for Miroslav Philharmonik. You get the original library plus previously unreleased sample material, including additional articulations, samples and new instruments. There's even a selection of noises made by the players to help reinforce the impression of listening to a real orchestra.
Miroslav Philharmonik provides a complete orchestra at your fingertips. The library is sub-divided into Solo Instruments, String Ensembles, Woodwind and Brass Ensembles, Classical Percussion, Harp, and Classical Choirs, plus Cathedral Pipe Organ, Classical Guitar, Concert Piano and Harpsichord. You also get mixed, full orchestra sounds with various layers of strings, brass, woodwinds and choirs. Within each category you also get a variety of expressive performance articulations. For example, there's Strings with Vibrato, No Vibrato, Mute, Detache, Pizzicato, Staccato, Sul Ponte, and Tremolo – all with various speeds and multiple velocities. The choir section includes sustained vowels in multiple dynamics, plus Staccato oohs, ahs and mms, and lots more.
The plug-in uses IK Multimedia's SampleTank 2.1 sound engine. This has advanced features such as STRETCH, which allows for more realistic performance techniques, and Range Control, which lets you create complex layers and splits. It also offers 16-part, multi-timbral operation, each with a separate output. There are 20 built-in effects to choose from, including hi-quality reverb, chorus, parametric EQ, compressor, and a master reverb specifically tailored for orchestral sounds.
You can choose an orchestra of up to 16 instrument ensembles, set up layers or splits, add effects and save the whole setup as a Combi Preset, recallable as needed. With over 1,300 orchestral sounds to choose from, the Search facility with multiple keywords for each preset, comes in very handy when you need to find sounds fast.
