Cleartune - Chromatic Tuner full review
ClearTune works on both iOS and Android. It doesn’t try to teach you anything or prompt you about poor technique, but it does provide a convenient method of tuning up whatever instrument you use so the sounds it produces are tuneful.
We tried out both the tablet and smartphone versions. It’s available for Android and iOS. It works by getting the built-in microphone on your smart device to ‘listen’ to the note you play on cue. Alternatively, you can tune your instrument to the note it plays on cue.
As with an electronic tuner, the needle shows you how far off key you are and which direction you need to turn your pegs or adjust your mouthpiece in order to correct it. You can tune up almost any instrument to any octave or key. Its developer, Bitcount, says any instrument that can sustain a note can be tuned using ClearTune.
You have control over the notation and temperament for your instrument. You can also specify the waveform and the amount of needle damping. Everything is clearly labeled and it’s as easy to simply tune an acoustic guitar to A as it is to find the note you need your violin to hit. There’s also the option to add presets, effectively creating a custom tuner for your own needs.
