Sonos Controller for iPhone full review
If you already own a Sonos wireless streaming system you’ll know that the CR200 hardware remote does a great job of wirelessly controlling your playlist choices but, at a price similar to a 32GB iPod touch, it’s an expensive addition to an already costly system.
So what’s the alternative? You guessed it, the Sonos Controller app for iOS. With its own remote device on the market, Sonos didn’t need to make this free app, which will surely dent sales, and it certainly didn’t have to make it so damn good, but we’re grateful it has.
The Sonos Controller app provides the perfect way to control your wireless music system. Connecting to your existing Sonos network, the features don’t stop at the music either. We hunted for things the Mac-based software could do that the iOS app couldn’t and came up with nothing. Anything from playlist building to setting equalisation on individual speakers is possible from within the app. Harnessing multitouch, the app even allows you to drag and drop songs from your music library into the current playlist.
More than just a controller, this free app is a complete hub for your Sonos system and iPad users will be truly amazed at how effective it is. While the iPhone and iPod touch version is a little more fiddly due to the smaller screens, both provide all the control you need making the desktop-based controller virtually redundant.
The Sonos Controller app looks great and offers an amazing number of controls
