Cruzer Titanium Review

We tested the 2GB version of the Cruzer Titanium from SanDisk, a 4GB version will launch shortly. This drive is stylish but also sturdy – SanDisk claims its liquid metal coating is crush-resistant to over 2,000lbs.

It scored well on transfer times, taking 8:24 minutes to transfer 1GB of data. This was twice as long as the Buffalo and Western Digital, but a similar speed to the Transcend and twice as fast as the Crucial and Kingston.

As is the case with many USB drives, the Cruzer ships with PC-only software. Should you be using it with a Boot-Camped Mac you might be interested to know this software lets you carry not just files but your wallpaper, preferences, favourites, and profiles. Another bonus is one month’s free Skype voicemail with the Skype installation information that comes in the box.

OUR VERDICT

To get around the lid issue, the Cruzer Titanium has a retractable USB plug. This is very neat; our only concern is that where a lid protects the USB from dirt that might be lurking in the bottom of your bad, this solution doesn’t.
