Altec Lansing’s new FX3022 speakers are certainly eye-catching, and they produce a pretty good sound too.
We were initially a little concerned about the rather lightweight plastic used to house the speakers, but that doesn’t stop them from producing a heavyweight 25W audio output.
There’s no separate subwoofer unit supplied with this 2.0 stereo system, but there’s actually a subwoofer built into the bottom half of each of the tower-shaped satellite speakers. The bass is pumped down through the bottom of each speaker, while the higher frequencies are emitted through the circular ports on the front.
The resulting sound quality is excellent, although we actually felt that the bass was sometimes a little too strong and we’d have liked a separate bass control to tone it down a little. However, there’s no denying that the FX3022 provides impressive volume and sound quality for a relatively compact set of speakers.
