Studiophile AV 40 review
Using the same technology as that used by professional musicians and moviemakers, the AV 40 is perhaps more compact studio monitor than computer speaker. This is fantastic if you value sound quality over looks and convenience, because the AV 40 positively dwarfs the other speakers here in both size and ugliness.
To be fair, this two-channel system is easy to set up and use, with the left speaker housing all the connection gubbins to hook it up to a Mac and a front-mounted volume control. There’s even a bass boost on/off switch so you can modify the level of thunderous drumming that makes it through the walls to your neighbours.
It’s good, then, that the AV 40 isn’t all stürm und drang – it’s capable of considerable poise when it comes to your more delicate tunes and, of course, its transparency is great for helping you create music too. Casual Mac music listeners are likely to feel a bit overwhelmed, however.
