SyncMate Expert full review

Lion brought us iCloud, but does your Mac’s data still feel trapped? Apple’s improvements to OS X and iOS make transferring images and music between iPad, iPhone and Mac a doddle, but you have to jump through hoops to sync data with other devices and services. So, let’s raise a glass to SyncMate – a tool that works around Apple’s efforts to hold data hostage.

SyncMate supports online services and devices such as Dropbox, Google, PCs and Nokias. You can sync your devices via a USB cable, WiFi, or Bluetooth.

A free version can sync your Address Book contacts and iCal events with all your devices, as well as with Microsoft Entourage contacts and calendars. It can also copy SMS messages to your Mac, where you can read and search through them. Stump up £25 for the Expert version and you can sync music, images, videos and folders too.

SyncMate has just been updated, where the big news is the ability to sync between Mac and Android devices. Instagram fans on Android, at last can easily transfer photos from Dropbox, Google+ or directly from their phone to Apple’s Photostream. From there it’s a simple matter to upload to Instagram from an iPad or iPod touch.

SyncMate gets all your devices sharing data like you’d expect from a perfect world
